Novel methods for responsible research assessment and Open Science evaluation

About This Pilot

University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is a pioneer of Open Science and science communication. In this pilot, UEF will be using novel methods to evaluate Open Science and enable responsible research assessment.

Goals & links to GraspOS

  • We tested and evaluated less used indicators and metrics for Open Science activities by creating a semi-quantitative hybrid indicator model. The model can be used to verify and make visible societal interactions of a research organisation.
  • We analysed UEF’s Open Science activities and benchmarked them to other Finnish universities by using data recorded to our institutional CRIS and national publication information service as basis in indicator development.
  • We explored the possibilities to use new methods in knowledge management, impact assessment, responsible research assessment and Open Science evaluation while identifying interests and ideas in interviews of UEF management.
  • We promoted Open Science by assessing new ways to use indicators for recognising and rewarding scholarly activities. We offer the novel hybrid indicator model openly available and encourage open conversation around the topics of the indicator model.
