EOSC projects enhancing scholarly data interoperability: a joint session at the EOSC Symposium 2024

30 September 2024

The EOSC Symposium 2024 will take place in Berlin, from 21 to 23 October, and will gather policy makers, funders, and representatives  of research institutions, research communities, and data- and e-Infrastructures active in the EOSC ecosystem.

The event will offer twenty-six sessions addressing the ambitions of the EOSC Tripartite Partnership, the EOSC Federation, the launch of the EOSC EU Node, the EOSC landscape, including the European Common Data Spaces and the Artificial Intelligence trends, and the impact and contributions of stakeholders.

In addition, six unconference sessions selected by community vote in the Call for Unconference Sessions will take place, one of which is jointly organised by the EOSC projects GraspOSSciLakeOSTrails, and FAIRCORE4EOSC, and which is expected to be of particular relevance for research infrastructures, INFRAEOSC projects, research assessment analysts and repository managers.

22 October, 11:30-12:30, EOSC collaborative frontiers to achieve interoperability and enhance scholarly data

This unconference session will be dedicated to exploring the latest advancements in scholarly data interoperability within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). In particular, the workshop will dive into the development and implementation of the Scientific Knowledge Graph - Interoperability Framework (SKG-IF), a model developed by the Research Data Alliance (RDA) for the management of scholarly data.

Currently, several EOSC projects are testing and implementing the SKG-IF, including GraspOS, SciLake, OSTrails, and FAIRCORE4EOSC. Project representatives will share their insights into the specific applications of the SKG-IF for data and metadata management, FAIRness, research assessment, and research discovery.

The session will feature a series of presentations by experts:

  • Thanasis Vergoulis from Athena Research Center will present the progress and challenges in onboarding the SKG-IF within the EOSC.
  • Elli Papadopoulou from Athena Research Center will outline the steps towards achieving FAIRness, interconnectivity, and machine actionability across all phases of the research lifecycle.
  • Matt Buys, Executive Director at DataCite, will provide insights from the network of repository managers.
  • Andrea Mannocci from CNR will offer perspectives on research assessment stemming from the GraspOS Pilot.

The session will conclude with a discussion on the next steps for EOSC, moderated by Giulia Malaguarnera, OpenAIRE Outreach and Engagement officer, in which participants will be invited to engage in the discussion, and to provide their feedback on the ongoing development of the SKG-IF roadmap.
